I use www.hostmonster.com for both the domain name registration and site hosting. Then I just use Wordpress (which is free) to configure the site and post articles. There really isn't any more magic to it. I guess the only other site which helped me a lot is www.thirtydaychallenge.com which has articles on building and promoting a website from scratch.
